Empowering Youth, Protecting Futures
At Channel A TV Foundation, we are deeply committed to the health, safety, and well-being of young people in our communities. In partnership with King County, we proudly launched the Youth Marijuana Prevention Project, a proactive initiative aimed at educating and empowering youth, families, and community leaders about the risks and long-term effects of marijuana use among minors.
Why Youth Marijuana Prevention Matters
While marijuana may be legal for adults in Washington State, its use by minors remains both illegal and dangerous. Research has shown that marijuana use in adolescents can impact brain development, memory, motivation, mental health, academic performance, and overall life outcomes. Preventing early exposure is key to building healthy, strong, and thriving future generations.
Our mission is to bridge the information gap, counter peer pressure, and encourage informed choices through culturally relevant education and youth engagement.
What We Do
Through creative media and community outreach, our Youth Marijuana Prevention Project delivers engaging, youth-centered programming that raises awareness and drives real conversations. Key elements include:
- Educational Campaigns and Video PSAs
We produce powerful multimedia content featuring real youth voices, testimonials, and facts about marijuana’s effect on teens. These videos are aired on Channel A TV (Roku, YouTube, and social media platforms) to maximize reach.
- Youth-Led Media Projects
Young people participate in the creation of videos, podcasts, social media content, and school presentations—using creativity to speak to their peers in a relatable and effective way.
- Workshops and Peer Dialogues
Our project hosts in-person and virtual sessions focused on mental health, substance use prevention, coping mechanisms, and leadership training.
- Partnerships with Schools and Community Centers
We work alongside educators, mentors, and local leaders to bring programming directly to schools, churches, youth centers, and after-school clubs.
Educate. Empower. Engage.
Our approach is educational, not punitive. We believe in listening to youth, understanding the pressures they face, and equipping them with tools to make positive life choices. By focusing on prevention through empowerment, we help teens build self-confidence, goal setting skills, and awareness of long-term consequences.
Community Collaboration
Channel A TV Foundation proudly collaborates with King County, public health educators, school districts, law enforcement, local nonprofits, and faith-based organizations to expand the reach and impact of this initiative.
Together, we are building safer, more informed communities, one young person at a time.

Empowering Youth. Protecting Futures. Inspiring Change.
At Channel A TV Foundation, we are deeply committed to building healthy and resilient communities by focusing on one of the most critical areas of youth development: substance use prevention. Through a meaningful partnership with King County, we proudly lead the Youth Marijuana Prevention Project, a dynamic, media-based initiative designed to raise awareness about the dangers of marijuana use among youth and empower young people to make informed, positive life choices.
Why Youth Marijuana Prevention Is Vital
Though marijuana is legal for adults in Washington State, its use among minors remains illegal and harmful. Scientific research shows that marijuana use during adolescence can interfere with brain development, impair memory and concentration, increase anxiety and depression, and contribute to poor academic and social outcomes.
Our work is centered on education, engagement, and empowerment, helping young people understand the real-life consequences of substance use and equipping them with the tools to resist peer pressure and build healthy lifestyles.
Studio-Based PSA Production & Podcasting
What sets our program apart is the power of creative media. At Channel A TV Foundation, we harness the full potential of our in-house studio and podcasting platforms to amplify youth voices and spread awareness:
- Public Service Announcements (PSAs):
We produce professional, youth-driven PSAs in both video and audio formats that are scripted, filmed, and edited in our multimedia studio. These PSAs feature real stories, real experiences, and real statistics designed to speak directly to teens and their families.
- Youth-Led Podcast Series:
Our podcast series provides a safe and open space where youth can engage in candid conversations about marijuana, mental health, peer pressure, and self-worth. With mentorship from health professionals, educators, and creatives, these episodes are thought-provoking, authentic, and empowering.
- Streaming Across Multiple Platforms:
These PSAs and podcast episodes are broadcast across Roku TV, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other social media outlets to ensure wide and accessible outreach.
Workshops, Storytelling, and School-Based Engagement
The Youth Marijuana Prevention Project extends beyond the studio. We deliver:
- Interactive workshops in schools, churches, and youth centers
- Creative storytelling sessions that allow teens to use film, photography, and poetry to explore their experiences
- Peer-led education programs that encourage positive dialogue among youth
- Trainings for educators, parents, and mentors on how to support teens in prevention efforts
Community-Rooted Partnerships
This project is made possible through strong partnerships with King County Public Health, schools, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, churches, and youth development programs across Washington State.
Together, we are creating environments where young people are heard, guided, and celebrated for making healthy choices that lead to long-term success.
